About us
Enterprise Britain is a movement of entrepreneurs, business leaders, and investors who are compelled to act, now, to build a better future for the UK.
We are focused on driving action, not just generating ideas. We are not a think tank; we are a movement of people who have been at the frontlines of building some of Britain's most successful and innovative businesses.
Here’s what we do:
- We lead a national conversation. We’re here to talk about ambition and how to inspire it. To shine a spotlight on success and celebrate it. To gain support for bold reforms and mobilise it.
- We shape bold policies. Our movement holds invaluable experience and insight about how to scale businesses and grow our economy. We draw on this to develop new ideas, refine them, and ensure they are heard at the highest levels.
- We bring people together. Across the UK, there is a huge appetite for practical, real-world ideas and a restoration of national self-belief. We are here to channel that energy, to foster collaboration, conversation, and — most importantly — action.
About you
We’re looking for an experienced communications director who is as comfortable setting strategy as rolling up their sleeves to get things done. In a fast-moving organisation like ours, the two go hand in hand. That means you are:
- Passionate about our mission. You genuinely believe that business can be a force for good, and you care about advancing shared prosperity.
- Well-rounded. You have a proven track record across multiple disciplines — from media relations to content strategy. You understand the critical roles that owned and earned media play and how they can complement each other.
- A campaigner. You have a disciplined approach to identifying key audiences, developing messages that will compel them to act, and deploying those messages through the right channels — with the right messengers.
- Political (but not partisan). You know how decisions get made in Whitehall and Westminster, and you understand how communications and public affairs complement each other to deliver tangible results. You believe that forging cross-party consensus is critical to delivering shared prosperity.
- Tech-savvy. You regularly use AI tools to boost your efficiency and bolster your skills, and you have good judgment about when and how to deploy them.
About the day-to-day
You will be responsible for overseeing our communications, working closely with our Executive Director and our agency.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Strategy: Developing our overarching communication strategy in collaboration with our Executive Director and our agency. Drafting tailored strategies for individual policy campaigns, research reports, and other initiatives.
- Planning: Overseeing our communications calendar and ensuring we are planning effectively for key moments. Developing and overseeing workplans for individual campaigns.
- Content: Overseeing all our output — from social media to op-eds, major reports, and speeches — ensuring it is consistently high-quality, on-message, and effective. You won’t be expected to develop all of this content on your own; you will have support from our agency, an in-house team member, and freelancers.
- Rapid response: Being on constant alert for openings to drive our agenda based on the news cycle and developments in Westminster and Whitehall. Flagging opportunities and leading reactive communications.
- Management: Overseeing our engagement with agencies and freelancers, ensuring that they are briefed effectively and that expectations are clearly communicated. Providing direct line management for one junior employee at the outset and potentially others as our team grows.
- Media relations: Building and maintaining strong relationships with journalists, editors, and broadcasters across print, broadcast, and digital. Ensuring Enterprise Britain is consistently in the news and on the agenda.
- Stakeholder engagement: Working with our Advisory Board and broader network to identify spokespeople, surface insights, and build coalitions that advance our objectives.
The fine print
- Location: Hybrid role with 3 days per week in a Central London office.
- Salary: Details to be shared with applicants at their first interview.
- Right to work: Applicants must have the right to work in the UK. Unfortunately, we are not able to offer visa sponsorship at this time.
- Start date: We are moving quickly and seeking applicants who can do the same. Unfortunately, we cannot wait out lengthy notice periods.
- Experience: We expect most applicants to have at least 10 years of experience to meet the expectations set out for this role. However, we encourage anyone who believes they can meet the requirements to apply.
