About us
Enterprise Britain is a movement of entrepreneurs, business leaders, and investors who are compelled to act, now, to build a better future for the UK.
We are focused on driving action, not just generating ideas. We are not a think tank; we are a movement of people who have been at the frontlines of building some of Britain's most successful and innovative businesses.
Here’s what we do:
- We lead a national conversation. We’re here to talk about ambition and how to inspire it. To shine a spotlight on success and celebrate it. To gain support for bold reforms and mobilise it.
- We shape bold policies. Our movement holds invaluable experience and insight about how to scale businesses and grow our economy. We draw on this to develop new ideas, refine them, and ensure they are heard at the highest levels.
- We bring people together. Across the UK, there is a huge appetite for practical, real-world ideas and a restoration of national self-belief. We are here to channel that energy, to foster collaboration, conversation, and — most importantly — action.
About you
We’re looking for a Policy Advocacy & Public Affairs Director who is as comfortable getting into the weeds of policy development as coming up with plans to mobilise action. That means you are:
- Passionate about our mission. You genuinely believe that business can be a force for good, and you care about advancing shared prosperity.
- A campaigner. You aren’t just a “Westminster insider”, you’re a campaigner. You have a proven track record of using creative approaches to deliver tangible policy outcomes, and you have a strong understanding of how communications and public affairs complement each other.
- Political (but not partisan). You understand the realities of political decision-making and the importance of building cross-party support to deliver lasting reform.
- Well-connected. You bring strong relationships across Westminster and Whitehall, and you understand how to engage effectively with decision-makers at the highest levels.
- Tech-savvy. You regularly use AI tools to boost your efficiency and bolster your skills, and you have good judgment about when and how to deploy them.
About the day-to-day
You will be responsible for overseeing our policy and public affairs work, in collaboration with our Executive Director and our agency partners.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Strategy: Leading our overarching public affairs strategy; building on the recommendations in our launch report, “Time to Act”, and developing tailored plans to deliver a prioritised set of policy outcomes.
- Policy development: Leading the development of new policy recommendations, sourcing insights from our Advisory Board and wider community and engaging freelance policy experts, academics, and economists where required.
- Engagement: Building and maintaining strong relationships across Westminster and Whitehall. Engaging directly with ministers, special advisers, and officials to influence policy thinking and decisions.
- Planning: Overseeing our policy advocacy and public affairs activities, ensuring we are planning effectively for key moments. Developing and overseeing workplans for individual policy campaigns and guiding the work of our agency partners and freelancers, where needed.
- Research & content development: Overseeing the development of policy-related content, including white papers, research reports, and consultation responses; working closely with our Communications Director, agency partners, and freelancers when required.
- Rapid response: Being on constant alert for openings to drive our policy agenda based on developments in Westminster and Whitehall. Flagging opportunities to engage and shape policy debates in real-time.
